Privacy Policy

WordGrasp is an iPhone app published by AkiziTech, an independent studio (“we”, “our”, “us”). It helps you learn words by explaining them in your own words. You can reach us at support@akizitech.com.

WordGrasp has no account.There is nothing to sign up for, and we don’t know your name, email address or who you are.

Your progress stays on your iPhone — your words, your answers, your streak and your settings. When an answer needs to be graded on our server, only the text of that answeris sent, together with which word it was for. We don’t store it, and we don’t link it to you.

There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The only third-party code in the app is RevenueCat, which checks your purchases.

Depending on your iPhone and our current settings, an answer is graded in one of three ways:

• Matched on your iPhone against short answers that come with each word.
• Graded on your iPhoneby Apple’s on-device language model, on iPhones with Apple Intelligence. Nothing leaves the device.
• Graded on our server.The app sends the text of your answer, the word or proverb it was for, which try it was, and a random install ID (see section 6). Our server, which runs on Cloudflare, asks OpenAI’s API to grade it and sends the grade back.

We do not store answers on our server, and our logs never contain them. OpenAI processes the text only to produce the grade. Under OpenAI’s API terms it is not used to train their models, and it may be kept for a limited period to monitor for abuse.

Please keep answers about the word. Don’t include personal or sensitive information about yourself or anyone else.

If you choose to answer by voice, WordGrasp uses the microphone while you hold the speak button and turns what you say into text with Apple’s speech recognition. On current iPhones this happens on the device, and the audio is not saved or sent anywhere.

On devices where Apple doesn’t offer on-device recognition for your language, iOS may use Apple’s speech recognition service instead, under Apple’s own privacy policy. Either way, WordGrasp only ever uses the resulting text, and you can always type instead.

All of this stays on your device:

• Your progress:the words you’ve seen, your answers and grades, review dates, streaks and awards.
• Your settings: daily pace, difficulty, reminder times, colour, voice and reading-aloud preferences.
• Downloaded words and proverbs, so the app works offline.
• A small summary for the widgets— your next word, streak and today’s score — shared only with WordGrasp’s own widgets.

You can export everything or erase it from Settings › Your data. Deleting the app also removes it, apart from the install ID described below.

On first launch WordGrasp creates a random identifier and keeps it in your iPhone’s keychain, so it survives reinstalling. It is sent with requests to our server and used only to limit how often one install can ask for grades. It isn’t derived from your device, your Apple Account or anything about you, and we don’t use it to build a profile.

Besides grading, the app downloads new words, proverbs and settings from our server. Like any website, the requests pass through our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which processes technical details such as your IP address to deliver them. We don’t use these requests for analytics or advertising.

The free trial, plans and lifetime unlock are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple handles payment; we never see your card, billing address or Apple Account details.

To know what you’ve unlocked, the app uses RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID it creates for your install, your App Store purchase and subscription records, and basic device details such as the app version, iOS version and storefront country. It does not receive your name or email address.

Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. There is no push notification server, so we never know when or whether you practise.

When you share your daily score, the image and link show your score, streak and stats, never your words or answers. A challenge link contains only the IDs of the words in the challenge. Where you send them is up to you, and the receiving app’s own terms and privacy policy apply from there.

WordGrasp contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell or share personal information.

WordGrasp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app has no account system, so there is no profile for us to hold in any case. If you are a parent and have a question, write to us at support@akizitech.com.

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete and port your personal data. For WordGrasp, most of that is in your hands already: your progress is on your iPhone, and we keep no record of your answers or anything that identifies you.

Export or erase your data from Settings › Your data. Purchase records are held by Apple and RevenueCat; if you need help with them, email us and we’ll do what we can.

If WordGrasp changes how it handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top before that version ships. Material changes will also be described in the App Store release notes.
