Questions, answered
Can CounterMint tell me for sure that a card is real?
No app can from a photo, and Pip won’t pretend to. A verdict is guidance from a photo and your answers — not authentication, grading, or a guarantee — and it can be wrong. For a valuable card, get a professional opinion before you buy or sell.
When does Pip say a card is fake?
Only when it’s confident. If the evidence is mixed or the photo isn’t clear enough, you’ll get “Take a closer look”, often with a quick follow-up question or a tip for a better photo, instead of a scary guess.
What does Pip actually check?
Seven things: card matched, print & colors, font & text, holo pattern, back design, centering, edges. It also compares your photo with the official image of the matched card, and lays out what it read from your card next to the official details.
How accurate are the collection values?
They’re rough estimates based on recent TCGplayer market data (via the Pokémon TCG API). Condition, grading, language and edition can move the real price a lot, so treat them as a steer, not an appraisal or financial advice.
Do I need an account or a subscription?
Neither. There’s no login and no subscription. New installs get free tokens for a first check; after that you buy token packs when you need them, through the App Store or Google Play.
What happens to my photos?
They’re sent to our service for analysis and compared with the official card image, then kept on your phone in your history and collection — not on our servers, unless you choose to share a card link or send feedback with a photo. The privacy policy has the details.
